Description

The finale of Piano Concerto No. 17 is one of my all-time favourites.
The opening Allegretto theme was clearly a favourite of Mozart’s as well, as he taught his pet starling to sing it- although much to his amusement, the bird always sang one wrong note and held another one too long!

The concerto was written for his student, Barbara Ployer and was premiered by her in her family’s summer house in Döbling. In the audience was Mozart’s friend, Giovanni Paisiello, whom Mozart had invited to show off both the concerto and his student to his friend.

The so called “Coronation” concerto was premiered under much different circumstances. Mozart not only wrote it for himself but performed it in a concert in connection with the installation of Leopold ll as Holy Roman Emperor, hence the nickname “Coronation”.

Now you can hear both of these masterworks together on one recording! Go ahead and treat yourself to these wonderful concertos!
