Description

In my earlier days a bassist, I had never heard nor played the three concertos on this recording. As is the case with many of the earlier Mozart piano concertos, they are not performed as often as the later, more popular ones.

Therefore, it was a great treat for me, not only to learn them, but to be able to record them as well! In my mind, each one of them is a unique gem cut from the fantastic imagination of Mozart.

Here is some interesting background information about these pieces:
Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 8 was written for the 26-year-old Countess Antonie Lützow – hence the nickname “Lützow” for the concerto.
Although it is not clear if and (or) when she performed it, the young countess must have possessed an ample amount of technical skills, given the level of technical difficulty involved.

Mozart performed them himself in Mannheim, Paris and Vienna and they were warmly received in all of these cities.

We are fortunate that for this concerto and Concerto No.13, Mozart wrote cadenzas for several of the movements which was not always the case: several of his concertos have no written cadenzas at all.

Why not take the opportunity to hear these cadenzas along with the complete concerto? You won’t regret it!
